There are several golfers looking for a variety of things. From those hoping to climb in the FedEx Cup Standings to those who essentially playing for survival on the PGA Tour, and then we’ve got those who are trying to fine-tune their game ahead of the Scottish Open and the Open Championship. Whatever the case, it’s going to be an intriguing showcase in the Quad Cities.

The 2023 John Deere Classic explained

The format for the 2023 John Deere has seen no changes. What that means is that the PGA Tour event played at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois will once again have a field of 156 players, who qualify for the tournament by means of the PGA Tour’s eligibility criteria, or via open qualifying.

Regarding the format itself, the tournament is a 72-hole event with the field divided into threesomes across the first two rounds. During those first two rounds, the threesomes remain paired together. It’s also worth mentioning that is one twosome among the pairings and all of them are given tee times in the morning as well as the afternoon. Each of the pairs will be allowed to start one round on the first tee and the other on the 10th, with the field split evenly on each day of play between the morning and afternoon.

Where the third and fourth rounds are concerned, the pairings and tee times are determined by each player’s total score through two and three rounds, respectively. Understandably, players with the highest total scores go first, while the rest go in descending order until the two players with the lowest total scores in the final group. The player with the lowest total score after 72 holes is declared the winner and takes home the winner’s share of the purse, as well as 500 FedEx Cup points, and approximately 33.5 Official World Golf Ranking points.
